| Chicago Workshop Video Released CHICAGO, September 23, 2009- Dear Friend of CAPS. Recently I had the honor of giving the keynote address at the Coalition for Quality and Patient Safety of Chicagoland’s annual summit. As part of my presentation, I debuted the release of the Chicago Patient Safety Workshop video filmed last summer. The workshop brought together 90 consumers and providers working in partnership to design better systems to ensure patient safety. Those in attendance at the summit heard and embraced the message of safety through partnership embodied in the voices and stories of those in the video.

| AHRQ Podcast- Community-Based Patient Safety Advisory Councils CHICAGO, July 10, 2009 - This 3-minute podcast features an interview with AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy who discusses how health care organizations in the U.S. are creating these councils to help reduce health care risks and improve health care quality. Dr. Clancy discusses the AHRQ-funded project with Aurora Health Care in partnership with Consumers Advancing Patient Safety and Midwest Airlines to build a community-based patient safety advisory council in Walworth County, Wisconsin.

| CAPS Launches New and Improved Online Resource Collection CHICAGO, April 2, 2009 – Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS) is pleased to announce that we are now using Delicious to manage our online resource collection. This social networking tool allows CAPS to update the resource collection in a very timely manner. Using bookmarks and annotations, our members will now have access to a select set of relevant resources chosen specifically for them. The items are included in our collection to not only create awareness of patient safety issues of interest to consumer leaders, but to assist with their development of grassroots awareness programs, grant writing and other strategies that support getting the word out about the consumer’s role in patient safety.

| CAPS Joins AARP Coalition of Healthcare and Consumer Leaders to Address the Nursing Shortage CHICAGO, March 16, 2009 – The need and urgency to reform the U.S. healthcare system, particularly by addressing the nursing shortage, was supported recently by CAPS who joined consumers, businesses and healthcare providers to launch the Champion Nursing Coalition.
