Dvorak Selected for Executive Leadership Program
CHICAGO, June 10, 2010  ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership has recently selected scholars for the Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP), class of 2010-2012. Among the scholars selected is Mitchell Dvorak, MS, CAE, executive director of Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS). DELP offers individuals from underrepresented segments of the association profession an opportunity to advance into the ranks of leadership in association management by providing networking opportunities, educational programs and career guidance.

Told through the words of Lewis mother and CAPS board member, Helen Haskell, and supported by insights from leading voices in patient safety education including Lucian Leape MD, Tim McDonald, MD, JD, Bob Galbraith MD, David Mayer, MD, and Rosemary Gibson, viewers are taken through all aspects of Lewis care.

Campaign for Better Care Story Collection Project

CAPS Needs Your Creative Juices, Your Expertise, Your Time
CHICAGO, April 2,-2010Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS) is operational largely through the volunteer efforts of its Board of Directors and members like you.  Countless hours are given out of a passion for improving patient safety.  Our work has helped raise the profile of patient safety around the world, nationally and locally.  This increased attention brings with it lots of ideas, programs and opportunities. However, we don’t have the person power to do what we need to do.

CAPS Joins New Campaign for Better Care
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2010– To ensure that health reform works for those with the most at stake, Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS) joining the National Partnership for Women & Families, Community Catalyst and the National Health Law Program (NHeLP) today in launching the Campaign for Better Care, a multi-year initiative that will focus on improving care, coordination and communication for older patients with multiple health problems and their family caregivers. The Campaign will build a consumer movement of and for older adults and those with multiple chronic conditions, who are counting on reform to provide the comprehensive, coordinated, patient-centered care they need.

CAPS Releases 2009 Annual Progress Report

Here at CAPS, we couldn’t agree more. Resident Working Conditions
CHICAGO, February 5, 2010 – Today, Consumers Advancing Patient Safety (CAPS) joined more than 40 organizations and patient safety advocates in signing onto a public letter calling for safer work hours and better supervision for resident physicians. The ACGME, the organization that regulates resident work hours, is poised to come out with new guidelines this year, and we felt it was important that patient voices should not be left out when they make their decisions.

Chicago Workshop Video Released
CHICAGO, September 23, 2009- Dear Friend of CAPS. Recently I had the honor of giving the keynote address at the Coalition for Quality and Patient Safety of Chicagoland’s annual summit. As part of my presentation, I debuted the release of the Chicago Patient Safety Workshop video filmed last summer. The workshop brought together 90 consumers and providers working in partnership to design better systems to ensure patient safety. Those in attendance at the summit heard and embraced the message of safety through partnership embodied in the voices and stories of those in the video.
