JONATHAN C. PECK

Jonathan Peck is a futurist as well as President of the Institute for Alternative Futures (IAF) and its for-profit subsidiary, Alternative Futures Associates (AFA) . Trained as a political scientist and futurist, he provides a wide range of consulting, speaking and facilitation.

In his work at IAF Mr. Peck designs and directs research programs and projects to help organizations use futures studies. He works with governments, non-profits and associations that seek to learn through forecasts, scenarios and visions in order to shape a better future. Mr. Peck’s work centers on the future of health, extending to economic, political, psychological and spiritual dimensions of health at a global level.

As a consulting futurist, Mr. Peck has worked extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He has researched and written on the science, demographics, economics, ecology, psychology and politics that relate to health. His extensive forecasting in key technological areas includes biotechnology, information technology and nanotechnology.

Mr. Peck is a popular speaker, facilitator and consultant for a large number of organizations. He is a member of The World Future Society and the World Futures Studies Federation and has keynoted conferences in many fields, including health, education, business and government. He has presented to such groups as the Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, the National Conference of State Legislators, Women in Government and a large variety of healthcare professional organizations. Trained as a practitioner in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Mr. Peck has integrated psychological concepts into his facilitation methods to help make the future more accessible to a wide range of audiences. Through project work in a many cultures, he has also developed techniques for group learning to engage people with different perspectives.

Mr. Peck has designed large-scale conferences and futures projects. He has led explorations on the future of healthcare systems design, genomics, mental health, emerging threats to public health, work, e-commerce, patient safety and grass roots social change. Clients have included the U.S. Department of Defense, agencies in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Lions Club International, along with a wide variety of corporations and associations. He serves on the Boards of Burgundy Farm Country Day School and Consumers Advancing Patient Safety and is an active volunteer for C-Change.

Mr. Peck received his Masters degree at the Futures Studies Program in the Political Science Department of the University of Hawaii. The program specializes in training professionals in the methods of futures research, and the use of those methods in public or organizational planning.

Articles written or co-authored by Mr. Peck have appeared in such diverse publications as World Market Business Briefing, Clinical Cancer Research, Pharmaceutical Executive, Business and Health, Journal of Geriatric Drug Therapy,Mobius and The Futurist. He is co-author of the books The Future of Work and Health and Regulating Change, and he has produced two educational videotapes.
